- Research on the effect of private equity ownership on healthcare quality
- Aangevraagde data:
- Dear Sir/Madam,
my name is Ludovica Cuttini, I am a MSc student in Financial Economics at the Erasmus University Rotterdam. I am currently researching as part of my thesis the effect of private equity ownership on healthcare quality. I am replicating a US-based study which looks at private equity investments in nursing home facilities, but also other healthcare facilities such as huisartspraktijken and tandartspraktijken, hence, ownership changes, and their effect on patient level data (e.g. mortality rate, health conditions (different diseases), address of residence, age) and facility level data (healthcare facility rating, hours worked by the staff, management fees, address). I was wondering if you had some data on these patients and facilities characteristics and if would be possible for me to access them, of course in an anonymous form, and if you could direct me to the right site on your website. I thank you in advance for your help and availability.
Best regards,
Ludovica Cuttini

- Impact:
- Private equity investment has been increasing in sectors of public interest like healthcare and childcare, which has sparked public debate in the Netherlands because of its controversial nature. Indeed, while some argue that there might be productivity and efficiency gains from it, several studies have shown that private equity ownership negatively impacts healthcare quality, affordability and accessibility. PE activity in healthcare is growing in the Netherlands, but its effects have not been studied within this context. Regulations might be needed if research proves that this kind of ownership proves to be detrimental.
